What each plan includes

Basic Payroll ($17 + $4 per worker)

Unlimited payrolls, auto payroll, free direct deposit, a free employee portal, contractor payments in payroll, multiple pay rates, time-off accruals, payroll reports, unlimited users with permissions and free USA-based support and setup help. You file and pay your payroll taxes yourself.

Full Service Payroll ($37 + $5 per worker)

Everything in Basic, plus Patriot files and deposits your federal, state and local payroll taxes and handles year-end filings at no extra fee, with a tax filing guarantee.

Add-ons and catches to know about

  • Basic means you file taxes. It’s the cheapest option, but filing and depositing payroll taxes is on you. Most businesses are better off with Full Service.
  • Extra states cost more. Full Service adds $12 a month for each additional state.
  • Time tracking and HR are add-ons. Time & Attendance and HR Software are each $6 a month + $2 per employee.
  • Fewer extras than Gusto. Benefits, 401(k) and workers’ comp are integrations rather than built-in products.

Is Patriot Payroll worth it?

If you want reliable payroll at the lowest price, yes. Full Service Payroll for 5 workers is $62 a month, compared with $84 on Gusto Simple. It’s our lowest-price pick in our payroll software guide. If you want built-in benefits and HR tools, see Gusto pricing.
