Shopify is the most popular platform for building an online store. What you pay has two parts: a monthly plan fee, and payment processing fees on every sale. Higher plans cost more each month but charge lower card rates, so the right plan depends on how much you sell.

Costs and catches to know about
- Every sale has a fee. On Basic, a $100 online order costs $3.20 in card fees with Shopify Payments.
- Using another payment provider costs extra. Shopify adds a 2% fee on Basic (1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced) if you don’t use Shopify Payments.
- Yearly billing saves money. Basic is $29 a month billed yearly versus $39 billed monthly.
- Apps and in-store tools add up. POS Pro for physical stores is an extra $89 a month per location, and many stores add paid apps.
Is Shopify worth the price?
If selling products online is the heart of your business, yes: Shopify is built for ecommerce first, and Basic covers most new stores. If you mainly need a business website with occasional payments or bookings, an all-in-one builder may cost less; see Wix pricing or compare options in our website builder guide.
