Kit (formerly ConvertKit) and MailerLite are two of the best-value email platforms for small businesses, but they’re built for different people. MailerLite is the budget-friendly all-rounder, with automations, landing pages and a website builder at a low price. Kit is designed for creators who are growing a newsletter or selling digital products, and its free plan is far bigger. Here’s how they compare on price and features.

The short answer

  • Choose MailerLite if you’re a small business that wants automations and landing pages for the lowest monthly cost. At 1,000 subscribers it’s about half the price of Kit.
  • Choose Kit if you’re a creator building a newsletter or selling digital products, or you want a free plan that covers up to 10,000 subscribers.

Where Kit wins

  • A much bigger free plan. Up to 10,000 subscribers with unlimited broadcasts, compared with 250 on MailerLite’s free plan.

Where MailerLite wins

  • Lower price. Comfort is $19 a month at 1,000 subscribers, half of Kit Creator’s $39.
  • Automations on the free plan. MailerLite’s free plan includes up to 3 automations; Kit’s has none.

Our verdict

For most small businesses sending a regular newsletter and a few automated emails, MailerLite is the better value: you get the features most businesses need for about half the price. For creators, coaches and anyone whose email list is the business, Kit is worth the extra cost for its creator tools and its free plan, which lets you grow to 10,000 subscribers before you pay anything.

Frequently asked questions

Is Kit or MailerLite cheaper?

MailerLite. At 1,000 subscribers on monthly billing, MailerLite Comfort is $19 a month and Kit Creator is $39. Kit’s free plan is bigger, though, so if you have fewer than 10,000 subscribers and don’t need automations, Kit can cost nothing.

Can I move my list from one to the other?

Yes. Both let you import subscribers, and Kit offers a free migration from another platform on its paid plans.

Which is better for selling digital products?

Both let you sell digital products. Kit has more creator-focused selling tools, such as paid newsletters, tip jars and recommendations; Kit charges a 3.5% + 30ยข transaction fee on sales.
